Happy Father's Day - Family Photographer - Golden, CO
Happy Father's Day to all those dads out there. I was listening to a podcast last week that really hit home for me. There was a discussion about someone losing their father at a young age and the photos he craved were of he and his father that showed how his father felt about him. Something that showed his affection. This really hit home with me. I believe all family photos are important, but my passion lies with those candid images that show a connection. I lost my father when I was 16 years old. Most of the photos we had of my dad were of him in the background and partially cut out. My sister sent this picture of my dad and I in the last year. She said she hesitated to post it on social media because she was afraid it would demean my dad or was disrespectful, but ultimately decided it showed what kind of a dad he was.
This is how I remember my dad. I remember Sunday afternoon 'rough housing' while my mom got our afternoon dinner ready. I remember him laying on his back in shorts and undershirt laying on the floor in front of our big console stereo listening to the Husker games. I remember him taking me fishing and patiently baiting my hook because I couldn't handle poking the hook through a worm (yet I always insisted on going with him). I remember his weekend days spent under the hood of our car changing the oil and spark plugs. My dad was humble, generous, and loving.
Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there. I know sometimes it can feel like you take a back seat to mom, but know that you are seen, loved and appreciated.
